Wonderful Solution for Mcro I use this product in my pediatric office to take Macro photos for skin lesions and other diseases. In the past, when I tried to take close-up or macro pics, the photo would be overexposed when I took it with a flash, and too dark without a flash. the SB-R200 is a wonderful solution to this. I did buy the full R1C1 system plus an extra SB-R200. Using this gear with my Nikkor 105 mm Macro lense is a great tool for me at the office. I would absolutely recommend this product to any person who is serious about macro photography. Thank you Nikon. May 12, 2011
Wonderful Addition to the R1C1 I own the Nikon R1C1 system and opted to purchase one additional SB-R200 to allow more creative lighting. Such as two mounted on the adapter and this third off to the side or behind. These are wonderful portable units; I almost always carry them in my bag for Micro Photography work. Please don't confuse these units with the SB-700. The main purpose of the SB-R200 is for close up work or augment your main flash. When used in combination the results are outstanding. When used as a primary Micro Photograpy flash system the results are excellent as well. Very flexible in the design and operation. Some complain about the non-rechargeable battery but I keep spares not only for the flash but camera in my bag thus it is not an issue for me, and don't understand anyone who do not carry spare batteries out in the field. In fact I can shoot hundreds of photos before the battery even shows signs of drain. - Hands down the best portable remote flash for close up work out there. Very dependable, and rugged enough to make the hike. Working with the SB R200 is simple and elegant and in almost all cases produce lighting that is perfect. Comes with a stand, filters and diffuser. Nikon calls it CLS for a reason - I love mine. October 7, 2010
Power System It would have been better to be supported with NIMAH AA size Battery instead of SR2 September 11, 2010

Answer:
The SU 800 makes it much easier and quicker to setup and control your SB-R200s or other Nikon CLS flashes (SB-900, SB-800, SB-700).
You can achieve almost the same results by going into your D700 menu and setting your flash as the commander on the correct channel and group as your flashes are.

You lose flexibility and ease of use when attempting to use you cameras menu to set up your flash settings, especially out of doors in bright day light.

Answer:
Yes it can. You would need to navigate your D90's menu and set your flash as the commander, then set the channel and group and compensation +- etc. Then set the SB-R200 to the correct group and channel ..
Then have fun :)

Answer:
No, well not directly as the D5100 has no commander, you would have to use a SU-800 or SB-700/900 to control it.

Answer:
In order to trigger the SB-200 you will need the SU-800 because the D3000 don't have the commander mode feature.

Hi,
I noticed that 1/1600 is listed as the flash duration for the sb-r200. I presume that's at full power. However, what are its flash durations at lower power settings?
